2 · Transaction fees

Fees were 0.54% of the block subsidy over the week (0.51% the week before). They rose at the end of the week: 0.63% on 29 Oct and 0.85% on 30 Oct, the 3rd highest day of October (after 1 and 2 Oct). The average fee per transaction on 30 Oct was 790 sats, the 2nd highest of October, while the day's transaction count (485,324) was the lowest of the month: users paid more per transaction to get into a block during the price fall, possibly a sign of a busier mempool on those days. For a miner paid by FPPS this adds directly to the day's revenue.

3 · BTC market

BTC/USD opened the week at $81,086 and closed at $77,204 (−4.79%), between $76,156 (low, 30 Oct) and $81,882 (high, 29 Oct). The widest days were 29 Oct (range 5.2%, close −4.29%) and 30 Oct (3.2%, −0.77%). Liquidations followed the direction of the move: on the 5 down days longs were 83% of liquidations, on the 2 up days 30%. Over the last 30 days the long share of a day's liquidations and the day's price change have a correlation of −0.73 (the bigger the fall, the more longs are liquidated).

BMM COMMENTARY

October closes as 2026's biggest month for difficulty: the three retargets (−0.03% on 3 Oct, +5.92% on 16 Oct, +5.54% on 29 Oct) add up to +11.75% and cut revenue per PH/s by 10.52% at constant price and fees, ahead of September (+5.52%, −5.24%). The week ended under pressure: late on 29 Oct Binance reported a hack of about $6.3 billion and suspended withdrawals; BTC/USD fell to $76,156 on 30 Oct, and $647M of BTC futures were liquidated in the week, 79% of them longs.

Next week to watch

  • Difficulty retarget at block 975,744: BMM estimate +1.10% around 12 Nov 2026 (estimate of 2026-11-12 15:36 UTC; it moves with the block pace), which would lower bitcoin mining revenue a further 1.1% in BTC.
  • Big day for BTC options: expiry 6 Nov 2026, 35,244 BTC of open interest on Deribit, Binance, Bybit and OKX (24,292 BTC calls, 10,953 BTC puts; snapshot 2026-10-31). Expect higher BTC spot price volatility around that date: important for those converting BTC to USD then.
